Here are at least 3 ways to really ruin a wedding reception.

I just spoke with a close friend of mine yesterday who recently attended a local wedding here in the Chicago area. While this is a true story, the names of the bride and groom will be changed to protect the unfortunate. Here are at least 3 ways to really ruin a wedding reception. For starters, while the Bride and Groom were in a greeting line welcoming guests as they arrived, the DJ started off the event off by whispering to the bride and groom about "laying a microphone on a table". They never heard him. Therefore when it came time for the traditional toasting of the happy couple, none was ever done and the DJ just stood there. Secondly, introducing the new Mr and Mrs as just "Jim and Sue" with a poor quality microphone that most could not understand what was said AND in such a manner, that no one noticed. Lastly, announcing the Father/Daughter dance by introducing the proud father of the bride (who had waited years for this moment as his daughter grew from baby, to child, to adolescent, to a beautiful bride) as just "Bill and Sue". Unconscionable!!! Then as the night went on, there was more issues that surfaced, like the arrangement of music selections that did not fit well together and his polo shirt and khaki pants attire. Ooops sorry, I'm already past 3 ways to ruin a wedding reception! Bottom line: he was cheap and you get what you pay for. Think this can't happen to you? Think again; it can. Remember, no price is a good price if you don’t like the quality of the DJ. (You’ll love ours!) With "smooth sailing" and "happy trail" wishes for your big day! Kindest regards, Jay

About the predicted "snow-maggeddon" for 2012

What a great day it is today! 80+ degrees in October could be addicting. I hope you are all able to get outdoors and enjoy this beautiful day! Hopefully, the weather predictions will be wrong about another "snow-maggeddon" for 2012. It's arguable that when predictions ever come out right. Maybe the Farmer's Almanac should be consulted. Either way, it's usually a good sign when the "sooth-sayers" try to guess how the weather will be months from now as they are usually wrong.

The Fireman Takes A Wife...

Amidst the every changing spring weather we had experienced this year, the last day of April was no exception. While the sun was passionate about coming out early on April 30th 2011, it also kept us in suspense as the day wore on. Fortunately, no rain dampened Holly & Nick's big day at White Pines Golf Club in Bensenville IL. In addition to the beautiful and manicured surroundings, the guests were treated to a dinner fit for a king. Succulent Prime Rib, mouth-watering Chicken breast and delectable side-dishes served family style, kept the 100+ guests pleased and happy. After dinner, it was all eyes on Holly and Nick as they started the festivities with their first dance appropriately titled "Marry Me" by Train. Later on, everyone participated in the traditional Polish custom called "The Apron" dance. Arranged by close family friend Cindy Henkel, Holly and Nick (seated in chairs on the dance floor) were surrounded and serenaded by the group in a double-circle to the classic schmaltzy tune "Let Me Call You Sweetheart". The tradition is a throw-back to olden days when life was less complicated and bride's everywhere automatically assumed the title of "homemaker" after saying their vows. With a great guy like Nick who really pitched in to help assist his beautiful bride with the entire wedding planning, I somehow don't think we will be seeing Holly slaving as a housewife anytime soon. It's easy to see they love to help each other and are a great match! It's true matches can start fires (just ask Nick...he's a Firefighter!) and I see this one as a 5-alarm "Blaze of Glory" for happiness. Best wishes always, Holly and Nick!

Love, Laughter and Happily Ever-After...

That's the way Marti & Josh's big day ended on Friday April 29th 2011. However, the real story was that even though this spectacular event had to end, Marti & Josh's lives together are just beginning. Like Shrek and Fiona, this modern day fairy-tale made all attending say "I'm A Believer". With an elegant ceremony and gorgeous room "done to the nines", the event was only eclipsed by a reception that started with cocktails in the Lisle Wyndham's Atrium and Grand Ballroom set with white linen chair covers with royal blue ties, a "to-die-for" chocolate fountain and uniquely-crafted, platinum signing picture for the guests to leave a creative note or two. Even the first dance "Tangled Up In You" by Staind was more than just a favorite of Marti & Josh, it seemed to captivate the audience because of it's unique and meaningful lyrics. An awesome choice for an awesome couple! Best wishes and Congratulations Marti & Josh!

Katy & Richard's Wedding 4-2-11

As the sun played hide-and-go-seek with the clouds, this awesome early spring day was accompanied by 60 degree temperatures. The day was perfect for Katy and Richard's Wedding and Reception. In addition to those nearby, the guests came from far away places such as India, England, New Zealand, Canada just to name a few. Even the tables were named for many exotic destinations that Katy and Richard had traversed. While the Hyatt Lodge's staff choreographed a perfectly timed delivery of a tantalizing, mouth-watering, culinary masterpiece whipped up by their 5-Star Chefs, it was the guests who gave the whole reception a "down home" spin on the lavish elegance. After a major "work-out" on the dance floor that continued most of the night without interruption, the guests left tired, happy and with many compliments for Katy and Richard who were not only the stars-of-the-show, but the best dancers! Congratulations and Best Wishes!!!

Katie & John's Wedding 3/26/11 @ Bartlett Hills.

It was a beautiful, yet windy and cold March afternoon that set the backdrop for Katie and John's Wedding reception at Bartlett Hills Golf Club. The grounds were at their usual picturesque best with bright beams of sunshine filtering through the partly cloudy skies. Guests were treated to a "Hollywood Movie" themed affair, with traditional Popcorn boxes, theatre candy and an even a Blockbuster movie "ticket" to their seat for this "opening night" to the rest of Katie and John's new lives together. It had all the trappings of Hollywood, including a grand entrance by the "stars", musical invitation to the start of the scrumptious dinner Ala a song form Disney's "Beauty and the Beast" entitled "Be Our Guest" and a cake topper that depicted a scene from another great Disney classic, "Lady and the Tramp". The guests were then treated to the storybook "Ball" after dinner with music and dancing that was non-stop. Even Uncle Joe treated the guests to a rendition of Frank Sinatra's "New York, New York". It certainly was a night of love, laughter and "happily ever-after".

19 degrees below zero last night

Wow. I was shocked to see how low the temps got last nite. While the O'hare area probably wasn't quite as bad, it sure makes you appreciate those 90+ degree days we all complain about in summer. We are gearing up for a HOT weekend and month of February business-wise.
